Tell us a bit about your role at Carbon?
I'm Carbon's Business Quality Manager, the main point of contact for any compliance queries for the Carbon Hub and Partners. Whether that relates to the risk assessment of their customers, any GDPR concerns, or updates to the business quality procedures in place for the firm.
What brought you into the world of compliance/business quality?
I did my Law degree at Cardiff University and then went on to complete the Bar Professional Training Course and a Masters in Legal Practice. I was fully intending on being a criminal barrister, from the age of 14, so the educational path I took was very much aligned to that. After qualifying as a barrister I had a job as a Compliance Associate for a legal consultancy firm in Cardiff. My role there was to support law firms in their compliance needs. From there I joined Deloitte in their Financial Crime Operations department in Cardiff. I worked with financial services firms, primarily banks, to assist them in complying with their anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing obligations.
What is your greatest achievement?
Qualifying as a barrister. Although I didn't then go on to become a criminal barrister, completing the bar course equipped me with many different skills that I still use today and gave me a great foundation in research, debate and reporting.
Tell us a few things that make you happy?
Cycling along the Taff Trail on a sunny day, cooking a new recipe, watching 'Would I Lie to You' which always makes me laugh! I love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Stars Wars and I am also a fan of the Avengers movies - there's nothing like a good super hero film to cheer you up and help you forget about the worries of the world.
