Tell us a bit about what you do?
I specialise in Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution. I love the variety that being a contentious lawyer gives me, such as helping my client through a dispute, finding a way to resolve it early on and making sure it never happens again. I thrive on the ‘outside the box’ thinking that a dispute requires and finding the solution that works for my client.
What do your clients appreciate most about you?
My clients range from sole traders to PLCs. They trust and respect my clear understanding of what they do and their goals. I take time to research their business and what makes them tick - the fact that they keep coming back to me is the greatest compliment.
What in your eyes makes you a good lawyer?
There are a few things but my straight-forward, common sense approach is a definite plus. Most clients don’t want reams of legal opinion when a clear, outcome focused answer will suffice.
My approach is practical because I have taken a slightly different journey than most into law. From age 16 to 23 I worked as an apprentice and qualified as an engineer at a local steelworks. Then I decided to become a lawyer. After 4 years of hard work and dedication I did it. I'm incredibly proud of what I achieved.
What other things make you proud?
Since becoming a lawyer I have changed many peoples’ lives for the better. I often succeed in cases where the other side’s resources far outweigh my client’s. I achieve settlements and decisions in their favour which have massive positive impacts on their businesses, lives and families.
And family life?
It’s quite a clan. I have been married to my amazing wife for 13 years and we have 3 awesome children along with what I can only describe as a menagerie – 2 cats, guinea pigs, roborovski hamsters, fish and not forgetting a red footed tortoise from South America called EsioTrot.
And in your spare time?
See answer above! My dream is to do a full British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand for the amazing countryside (and some great rugby). In the meantime I will settle for coaching kid’s rugby - which is great too!
