Can you outline the area of law you specialise in?
I am an official Leasehold Enfranchisement and Leasehold Reform geek, I love technical, archaic black letter law. I assist Landlords with the statutory process of selling their freehold to tenants, collectively. I help Tenants to purchase the freehold of their house, extend the term of their lease by 90 years or collectively buy their freehold, with their fellow leaseholders. I also undertake all other forms of prime central London residential property law including conveyancing, Landlord and Tenant work, residential tenancies and advising landlords and management companies on their legal obligations towards leaseholders.
What do I like about this area?
It’s niche. Not many people know anything about leasehold reform or enfranchisement and it’s not something you can dabble in. That means I have to be really good at working my way through the knotty, difficult stuff. And my work can be either contentious or non-contentious, so there’s variety as well.
Tell us a bit about your career to date?
Most recently I worked for Bircham, Dyson Bell a private client firm in London. Prior to that I was a Manager within the Legal Department of Southwark Council specialising in housing law.
So, what brought you to Carbon?
I wanted to be able to use my entrepreneurial skills and experience. The freedom and flexibility of Carbon allows this to happen. I can build my practice in my niche area of law and most importantly I can work with my clients in a way that suits them.
What do your clients like about you?
I have confidence in my own skills and so my clients are able to have confidence in what I do for them. I like to look at the bigger picture. I harness a true commercial spirit which means that I can work for my clients from their viewpoint. My aim? To get results in the best and quickest way possible, in a way that works for my clients.
What makes you tick?
Having a happy, balanced life, doing the best I can every day. Always growing and learning. I love travelling. Featuring top on my bucket list is exploring South America - although I’m also planning to revive my French language skills and pick up a paintbrush again.
Who is your hero?
My grandfather. He taught me to have the courage to overcome obstacles, pick myself up and try again, then smash it out of the park. Be passionate about it. Live it, breathe it.
